KISSIMMEE, Fla. - On the final day of the Rebel Spring Games the Leopards defeated Marist 3-1 and fell to Hartford earlier in the day, 5-4. Lafayette now sits at 5-7 overall.
Lafayette was able to score first in the bottom of the second in the Marist game. Freshman Madeline Allen singled to right field, advancing Christina Garanio to third and bringing home Kerry Griffen.
Fellow freshman, Emily Noel followed with a single to center field and brought Garanio home for an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Stacey Dorn hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Allen and give the Leopards the 3-1 win early in the day.
Senior pitcher Kasey Karr pitched all seven innings allowing only four hits and striking out six.
In the Marist game, Karr's two home runs were not enough to get the win. The very first play of the game Karr hit a homer to give the Leopards the early 1-0 lead.
Hartford got two runs in the second inning off Lafayette error and led 2-1. In the fourth inning, Christina Giambrone doubled first at bat, following Stacey Kushner singled bringing Giambrone home.
Early in the seventh innings with Carley Ferio on first, Karr hits her second home run of the day and the Leopards take a 4-3 lead. The two run homer was not enough as Hartford scored its final two runs and gave the Hawks the 5-4 edge.
Chistine Hilcken pitched six innings in the loss, giving up five runs and striking out five.
The Leopards come home after two away tournaments to host Wagner on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start.
