WORCESTER, Mass. - The Lafayette volleyball team got kills from eight different players, but the Leopards were swept by host Holy Cross on Saturday by set scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-14. Kaitlynn Zoller had 11 kills for the Leopards.
With the loss, the Leopards fall to 8-13 overall and 1-8 in the Patriot League. The Crusaders improve to 7-18 on the season with a 3-6 League tally.
Flanking Zoller's 11 kills were Camissa Beghou and Danielle Towslee with six and five finishers, respectively. Alana Taylor and Molly Belcher had three kills each and the trio of Christy Mebust, Andrea Duvall and Katy Rooney had one kill apiece to round out the offensive output. Belcher ran the offense and dished out 25 assists.
Defensively, Mebust had a team-best 13 digs and Belcher just missed her second-straight double-double with nine from the back row. Michelle Woodworth chipped in with eight digs. Zoller, Towslee and Beghou each had a hand in two of the Leopards' five team blocks.
The Crusaders' Megan Lynch led all players with 13 kills. Hannah Grace Stokes had a double-double with match bests in assists (29) and digs (14).
Lafayette returns home to host Lehigh on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The Leopards will host their annual "Dig Pink" match against the Mountain Hawks. Fans who wish to contribute to Lafayette's fundraising efforts can visit the Side-Out Foundation's secure website.
Dig Pink is a national breast cancer awareness initiative started by the Side-Out Foundation and held annually during the month of October. This season, the Side-Out Foundation set a monetary goal of $2.5 million as well as a participation goal of 500 collegiate and 1,000 scholastic programs.
The Side-Out Foundation is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families by supporting clinical trials, increasing compassionate support services and educating communities.
