PHILADELPHIA - The Lafayette fencing team kicked off its 2011-12 campaign at the Temple Open in Philadelphia. David Eckelmann was the Leopards' top performer with an 11th place showing in the men's épée.

Jane Liu placed 18th out of 86 competitors in women's foil, while Lisa DeJoseph and Alexandra Knobel finished 23rd and 24th in the school. Caitlin Altomare was the Leopards' lone women's épéeist, placing 57th of 92 fencers, while Bridget Greeley competed in the women's sabre and finished 58th out of 87 sabreuses.

Eckelmann's 11th-place performance came in a field of 100 fencers. Daniel Robitzski finished 18th in the school and Andre Rafizedah placed 23rd, while Noah Weiner and Everett Glenn placed T-45th and 50th, respectively. Zachary Roberts and Philip Manna led the way in men's foil, placing 41st and T-42nd among 89 competing foilists. The only Lafayette sabreur to compete was Eric Luby, who placed 39th out of 100.

The Leopards will begin the team season on Nov. 20 at Haverford against Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Virginia, William & Mary and the host Fords.
