EASTON, Pa. - Carter Rufe completed an excellent weekend of golf on Sunday afternoon, shooting a final round 71 for the individual victory at the Cornell Fall Invitational. Rufe closed the 54-hole event with a six-under 210, at the 6,890-yard par-72 Cornell Golf Course in Ithaca, N.Y. As a team, Lafayette (310, 298, 307; 915) finished the event tied for eighth out of 14 teams.

Rufe led after day one, carding rounds of 70 and 69, good for five-under through the first 36 holes. His effort was completed with a -1 final round and he was the only competitor under par in the event.

"Carter was really focused on finishing off the tournament," head coach Jim Hutnik said. "In the two previous tournaments he was close to the lead after the first day and fell short in the last round. Today he knew he was near the top of the leader board and was determined to finish strong. Being the only player to shoot three rounds under par is pretty special."

Freshman Kirk Massie finished second on the team, recording a three round total of 230. Massie's best score was his second round 72 and he ended his weekend tied for 40th overall.

Phil Rosengarden lowered his scores through each round, finishing in 56th place. The freshman opened with an 82, shot a second round 79 and carded a 76 on Sunday.

Closing out the scoring for the Leopards was Peter Gross (81, 78, 80; 239) who ranked 58th in the event.

Binghamton (871) won the event as a team, followed by Columbia (874) and Delaware (887).

Lafayette returns to the course Monday at the Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
