EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team notched its first road league win of the 2012 season Friday night, defeating Holy Cross, 3-1, in Worcester, Mass.

Freshman Brianne Giangiobbe led the Leopard attack with 12 kills and senior co-captain Kaitlynn Zoller added 10. Fellow senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel recorded a double-double, marking 41 assists and 13 digs.

Sophomore Melanie Weiss and junior Karissa Ciliento slotted two aces apiece and sophomore Katy Rooney stuffed four blocks at the net.

Lafayette got off the bus ready to play, jumping out to a 20-13 lead in the opening set on a Weiss service ace. After trading points toward the end of the set, a kill from sophomore Danielle Towslee ended the first in Lafayette's favor, 25-18.

The second was even to start as the Crusaders and Leopards battled to a 12-12 tie midway through the set. Then, a Zoller kill sparked a 8-2 Lafayette run to put the score at 20-14. Again, the two teams traded points before Towslee finished it off once more with a kill to take the 2-0 set lead, 25-20.

In the third, Holy Cross came out winning seven of the first eight points to take the early 7-1 lead. Lafayette battled back halfway through the set as a Towslee kill pulled the Leopards within three points at 15-12. However, Holy Cross took the momentum back and ran away with the set, 25-17.

After 24 points in the fourth, the Leopards held a decisive 17-7 lead. However, the Crusaders continued to fight as they pulled within one at 24-23 on a Ciliento attack error. Ciliento had her redemption, though, as she put the final point away, seizing the match for Lafayette, 25-23.

Next up for the Maroon and White is a trip to West Point, N.Y. on Saturday to face Army at 7:30 p.m.
