ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two first-half goals and a third early in the second half by Navy's Joseph Greenspan propelled the Midshipmen past Lafayette 4-2 on Saturday night at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Greenspan opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he received a feed from Alex Wilson inside the Lafayette 18-yard box and beat goalkeeper Nathan McDonald.

The Mids never trailed in the match, as Greenspan netted his second of the night at the 28:39 mark when he headed a cross from Patrick Sopko just inside the post.

With five minutes to play before intermission, Lafayette cut the deficit in half thanks to Peter Adubato's first marker of 2012. Senior captain Sean Peckham slid a through ball to Adubato in the penalty area to set up the score.

The one-goal margin was short-lived, though, as Navy answered with its third goal of the half 2:09 later. A Mids' corner set up the goal by Derek Vogel and Navy held a 3-1 lead at the break.

Less than two minutes into the second frame, Greenspan completed the hat-trick when he converted a penalty kick, putting the home team ahead 4-1.

Navy maintained its three-goal cushion until the 81st minute, when Lafayette turned a corner kick into its second goal of the match. Alec Golini sent a cross into the mix where Luc Bruggeman directed it to Kyle Scharfenberg, who played it to Peckham before he fired it into the back of the net.

McDonald finished with two saves, while Navy's Gavin Snyder turned away five Lafayette shots, including two by Erik Cannon. Statistically, Lafayette held the edge in shots (16-10) and corner kicks (8-4).

The Maroon and White return to action at home on Tuesday evening against Delaware. Kickoff from Oaks Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
