EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team picked up its third win in league play on the year and moved to 11-15 overall by sweeping Holy Cross inside Kirby Sports Center on Friday evening. The Leopards snapped their two game losing streak by defeating the Crusaders 25-17, 25-21, and 25-20.

In the first set, Lafayette jumped out to an early 6-4 lead before the Crusaders rallied for five straight points to go in front 9-6, forcing the Leopards to take their first timeout. Lafayette rebounded to take 12 of the following 20 points to go up four, 18-14. Holy Cross proceeded to take a timeout. Out of the time out, the Leopards finished the set on a 12-4 run thanks to senior Karissa Ciliento's service ace, which began the run. She added a kill several points later as the Leopards went on to win set one 25-17.

The second set was back and forth early on until the Leopards were able to jump out to an 18-14 lead a little more than halfway through the set. The Crusaders rallied for four straight points out of a timeout to tie it at 18. The Maroon & White called a timeout to stop the momentum. Lafayette stormed out of the break, scoring seven of the final ten points of the set to win 25-21. Brianne Giangiobbe led the closing run with three kills and added a block as well as one block assist. She finished with a match-high 11 kills.

After falling behind the Crusaders 13-11 in the third set, Lafayette scored four out of the next five points to regain the lead 15-14 thanks in part to Danielle Towslee. The junior contributed with two timely service aces and one kill in a span of four points that helped the Leopards take control of the set. The Leopards never trailed the rest of the way as they went on to win the third set 25-20. Holy Cross got within one, 20-19, before the Leopards closed out the set scoring five of the last six points highlighted by two back-to-back kills by Jet Manzi.

Junior Katy Rooney was the only other Leopard to record double-digit kills, with 10. She paced the team hitting for a .471 average. Freshman Samantha Volk handed out a match-high 32 assists and sophomore libero Lauren Pisauro also finished with a match-best 26 digs. Alex Aycock was the only Crusader to reach double-digits in kills with 10 while Katie McKernan had 24 assists. Hannah Grace Stokes finished with a team-high 17 digs for Holy Cross.

Lafayette returns to action tomorrow, Nov. 16, for its last match of the season against Army starting at 6 p.m. The team will honor its senior players with a pregame ceremony.
