Sophomore Mike Zausmer led the Leopards in the final round of the Florida Atlantic University Spring Break Championship, leading Lafayette to a 13th place finish. Zausmer recorded a three-over 74 on the 6,876-yard, par-71 North Course at The Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla. to finish in a four-way tie for 13th place at five-over 218.
The Leopards return north and will host the Lafayette Invitational April 7-8 at Northampton Country Club.
Lafayette freshman Travis Ricca offered up the highlight of the tournament with his third career hole-in-one on the 184-yard 18th hole.
Central Florida held on to win the team title with an 11-over team score of 295 for an 866. Florida Gulf Coast and Hartford tied for second at 873, while Miami of Ohio finished fourth at 878 and host FAU and Jacksonville State tied for fifth at 879.
Individually, Tomasz Anderson of Jacksonville State started the day in a tie for fifth place but fired a four-under 68 to earn medalist honors by just one stroke over second-round leader Greg Eason of Central Florida.
Aside from Zausmer, Lafayette's individual scores included Peter Gross tying for 56th at 231, Chad Bell - with a 74 for his best round of the tournament - tying for 72nd at 235, Patrick Luther tying for 77th at 236 and captain David Kafafian finishing 85th with a 240.
Lafayette also has a "B" squad and two additional individuals competing in the Leopards' opening event for the spring season. Those seven scores include: Doug Fernandez (T30 - 223), Phil Rosengarden (T77 - 236), Travis Ricca (T89 - 243), Robert Dyer (91 - 247), Ben DeForest (92 - 249), Josh Feinberg (93 - 250) and Kirk Massie (96 - 254).
