EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette College hosted 216 of the nation's top fencers on Saturday afternoon inside Kamine Gymnasium for the 2013 NCAA Fencing Mid-Atlantic/South Regional. The Leopards sent 12 student-athletes to the strip for the 13-team event.

Men's epee and foil were Lafayette's strongest weapon of the event with three student-athletes representing the Leopards on each side. Epeeists David Eckelmann and David Jennings went 2-2 on the day, respectively, placing them 24th and 25th, while Daniel Robitzski won one bout to secure the 31st spot.

In the men's foil, Timothy Gaziano won the only bout of the three competitors as he placed 31st. Jeremy Martin-Mills and Phillip Manna lost all nine of their bouts and secured the 34th and 35th positions.

In the Men's saber, Darrell Washington and Paul Dobrowsky were the Lafayette tandem, going 1-8 in their nine bouts, with Washington picking up the lone win. Washington took 27th in the event and Dobrowsky tied for 31st.

On the women's side, Lisa DeJoseph and Colleen Way both finished in the top-30 as DeJoseph's 2-3 mark landed her in a tie for 27th and Way's 1-4 record put her in the 29th spot.

Allison Reich was the lone competitor in the Epee, going 0-5 for the 36th position and Leah Hayden rounded out the Lafayette contingent in the Saber with an 0-4 mark for 34th place.

In addition to Lafayette's participants, four top-10 men's squads (No. 1 Penn State, No. 5 Princeton, No. 8 Penn and No. 9 Duke) and four top-10 women's squads (No. 2 Princeton, No. 6 Penn State, No. 9 Temple and No. 10 Penn) had representatives at the event.

Lafayette's 12 fencers at the event topped last year's mark of nine qualifiers and was the first time in school history that the Leopards had double-digit representatives.

Before last year's NCAA event, Lafayette had last hosted an event of this magnitude when two rounds of the 1995 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup were held at Oaks Stadium. This was the second consecutive NCAA fencing regional held on College Hill.
