Annapolis, Md. - Lafayette dropped to 0-2 in Patriot League play after falling to Navy on Saturday afternoon. The Mids beat the Leopards in three sets, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-16. Lafayette was led by senior Karissa Ciliento's double-double, with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Freshman Samantha Volk handed out 21 assists and tallied five kills in the loss. Lauren Pisauro came up with a team-high 17 digs, while Sarah Moult chipped in with five kills. Katy Rooney led the Leopards with three blocks.

Navy was led by Erin Fortner's 19 kills and seven digs. Mids libero Alli Graf had a match-high 23 digs, while setter Alex Karika posted 39 assists.

The Leopards and the Mids battled in the first set, as the whole set was played within two points. Lafayette took its first lead of the game, 5-4, on a kill from Volk. Down, 16-15, back-to-back kills from Volk and Ciliento put the Leopards ahead, 17-15. With Lafayette down 21-19, Ciliento tied the set with a pair of kills, but Navy would take four of the next six points to win the set, 25-23.

In the second set, the Leopards got off to a quick start on kills from Ciliento, Brianne Giangiobbe and Volk to open an 8-3 advantage. The Mids came storming back tying the set at 9-9. The set went back and forth for until the Mids pushed ahead, 21-18, and forced a Lafayette timeout.

A kill from Volk out of the timeout would be the last points for the Leopards in set two, as the Mids took the next four points to close out the set, 25-19, and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Mids came out flying in the third set scoring nine of the first 10 points. Lafayette tried to work its way back into the set, cutting the Navy lead to five on three straight kills from Ciliento. The Mids controlled the rest of the set, winning 25-16.

The Leopards return to action Friday night when they host American at 7 p.m. Lafayette will play Loyola Maryland on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Kirby Sports Center.
