Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team swept visiting Loyola, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon inside Kirby Sports Center. Jet Manzi paced the Leopard attack with nine kills, while Lauren Pisauro finished with a match-high 13 digs.
The Leopards improved to 5-20 and 2-11 in Patriot League play and Loyola dropped to 2-23 and 0-12. Lafayette received five kills and 23 assists from Samantha Volk, while Katherine Stevens and Brianne Giangiobbe each supplied four kills. Jane Lukas led Loyola with a match-high 16 kills.
Lafayette jumped out to an early 5-1 as Manzi, Stevens and Danielle Towslee all came up with kills to start the match. Loyola battled back and was able to tie the match at 16. The Leopards pushed ahead 20-17 on kills from Volk, Giangiobbe and Katy Rooney. The Maroon and White held off a late charge from the Greyhounds, as a Volk ace helped the Leopards take the first set, 25-23.
The second set was back and forth before a pair of aces from Manzi gave the Leopards a 15-11 lead. A 3-0 run from the Greyhounds trimmed the lead to one, 15-14, but Lafayette put together a 6-2 spurt, highlighted by kills from Towslee, Manzi and Volk, to take a 21-16 advantage. Tori Smith's kill made it 22-17 and the Leopards held on for a 25-18 win in the second set.
Loyola ran out to an early 11-7 lead in the third game. Lafayette closed the gap to 13-11 on a block from Manzi. The Greyhounds maintained an advantage until a service ace from Volk tied the set at 20. After a Loyola point, Towslee and Stevens blocked the Greyhound attack to tie the set at 21. The Leopards took their first lead 23-22 on back-to-back kills by Manzi and Rooney. Rooney and Towslee closed out the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0, with a block.
Lafayette returns to action Friday night for Senior Night against Bucknell.
