Hempstead, N.Y. - Lafayette dropped the nightcap against tournament host Hofstra on Friday night, 3-1. The Leopards were led by Jet Manzi's double-double, 11 kills and 16 digs.
Brianne Giangiobbe and Katy Rooney each provided five kills in the match, while Tori Smith dished out 21 assists for the Leopards. The Pride were led by Veronika Kostova and Kelsie Wills 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Manzi got off to a quick start registering four kills in the opening set, but it wasn't enough as the Leopards fell 25-15.
The second set ended with a 13-6 run from the Leopards to erase an 18-13 deficit and win the set, 26-24. Kills from Manzi, Giangiobbe and Elizabeth Walsh highlighted the spurt. Rooney and Walsh also combined for a block, while Manzi chipped in an ace during the frame.
Hofstra jumped out to an early 12-5 lead in the third set and didn't look back as it took the game, 25-12. Lafayette's libero, Lauren Pisauro, came up with four digs in the set, while Manzi had a pair of kills and Giangiobbe and Katherine Stevens also tallied kills.
The fourth set saw the Pride build and early 5-2 advantage and held on to take the set 25-12. Rooney powered the offense in the final frame hitting two kills. Manzi picked up five digs and another kill for the Leopards in the fourth.
The Maroon and White are back in action tomorrow with a pair of matches at the Hofstra Invitational. They will take on St. Francis Brookyln at 10 a.m. and Santa Clara at 3 p.m.
