Hempstead, N.Y. - Lafayette fell to Santa Clara in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in the team's final game of the Hofstra Invitational. The Leopards were led by Lauren Pisauro with ten digs and Jet Manzi with five kills.
Manzi picked up five kills and four digs in the opening frame, but Santa Clara jumped out to an early 9-1 lead and never looked back. Maggie Evans chipped in two kills in the set, while Pisauro and Tori Smith each came up with four digs apiece.
Smith served up and ace, while Evans had a kill in the second frame, but the Broncos took the second set, 25-10. In the third and decisive game, Katherine Stevens hit for three kills, but it wasn't enough as Santa Clara won the third, 25-21 and the match, 3-0.
Lafayette is back in action next weekend at the Seattle University Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
