EASTON, Pa. - Despite a strong third-set comeback, the Lafayette women's volleyball team fell to Saint Peter's on Saturday morning in its final match of the Crosstown Tournament, 3-1.
The match started with a strongly contested opening set that the Leopards were unfortunate to be on the losing end of by a 26-24 margin. The second was one Lafayette would like to forget, falling 25-15.
Luckily for the Maroon and White, they had short memories as they came out a revitalized unit in the third, taking a close one by a score of 25-23. Ultimately though, the Peahens bested the Leopards in the fourth in final set by a 25-21 mark.
Lafayette's Jet Manzi racked up a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Elizabeth Walsh led the offense with 16 kills. Brianne Giangiobbe tallied 37 assists to direct the offense and libero Lauren Pisauro dug up 17 balls on the back line.
The Peahens' Lauren Behrens recorded a double-double of her own with 16 kills and 10 digs to lead Saint Peter's while Kristina Baehr notched 39 assists. At the net, Kelly Flynn totaled six blocks on the day and Katy Rooney chipped in with three send-backs.
The Leopards open up conference play on Wednesday evening with a bang, hosting archrival Lehigh inside Kirby Sports Center at 7 p.m.
