Seattle, Wash. - Lafayette volleyball fell to Seattle University, 3-0, on Friday night at the Seattle University Invitational. Jet Manzi paced the Leopards' attack with eight kills in the match.
Katy Rooney and Danielle Towslee each had four kills, while Lauren Pisauro had a match-high 11 digs. Tori Smith finished with 17 assists for the Leopards.
Seattle jumped out to an early seven-point lead in the opening set. Lafayette was able to pull within five on a pair of aces from Kelly Flynn and two kills from Jet Manzi. Another kill from Katy Rooney made it 13-8, but that was as close as the Leopards would get in set one, as the Redhawks took the opening set, 25-13.
Tori Smith opened the second set with a service ace, that was followed by a Manzi kill to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead. A 9-2 run from Seattle pushed the Redhawks ahead 9-4. The Leopards would close the gap to four, 11-7, on a kill from Rooney, but Seattle maintained control and won the second set, 25-13, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Leopards found themselves down early in the third set, but battled back to within two midway through the frame. An ace from Manzi followed by a kill from Danielle Towslee made it 14-12, but an 11-5 run from the Redhawks gave them the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
Lafayette is back in action with a pair of matches tomorrow in Seattle. The Leopards will take on Oregon State at 1 p.m., followed by Pacific at 6 p.m.
