RIVERDALE, N.Y. - A Manhattan goal in the 48th minute was all the Jaspers needed to slip past the Lafayette women's soccer team on Friday evening in Riverdale, N.Y., 2-1.
Coming out in the second half and grabbing momentum early, the Jaspers' Emily Center found Aislinn McIlvenny at the top of the box with room to work. McIlvenny saw Sedillo creep off her line and chipped it over top and into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
The game began as a back-and-forth affair with only two shots occurring, both off Manhattahn feet, in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Midway through the half, a header from Lauren Barton was just saved by Sedillo and Lafayette's Samantha Potoczak cleared the rebound off the goal line to keep the Jaspers off the board.
The defenses held for the remainder of the opening half and, following the goal in the 48th minute, Manhattan turned defensive. Lafayette was able to work just five shots on goal in the game compared to 12 from the Jaspers, eventually falling in the end, 1-0.
Sedillo finished the night with four saves to move to 2-2 on the year, while Manhattan's Kristen Skonieczny tallied four saves in her clean sheet. Julia Wescott, Allie Torru, Reanna Leoni, Melissa Lynskey and Olivia Heitz were the shot-takers for the Leopards, each recording one shot apiece.
Next up for the Maroon and White is a return to College Hill, hosting Binghamton on Sunday in their home opener at 1 p.m.
