Seattle, Wash. - Danielle Towslee and Jet Manzi each had eight kills, but the Leopards fell to Oregon State, 3-0, in their second game at the Seattle University Tournament. The Leopards moved to 1-5 on the season, while Oregon State improved to 5-0.
Tori Smith led Lafayette with 17 assists, while Lauren Pisauro had a match-high 15 digs. For Oregon State, Lila Turner finished with a match-best 11 kills and Dana Backlund had 30 assists for the Beavers.
Towslee started the match with a kill for the Leopards, but Oregon State answered with a four-point spurt to take a 4-1 lead. An ace from Kelly Flynn and another Towslee kill pulled Lafayette within one, 5-4. The Beavers used an 8-2 run to build a seven-point lead and went on to win the opening set 25-14.
The Beavers jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage in the second set before a 7-3 run from the Leopards highlighted by a pair of kills from Towslee tied the game at eight. An 8-2 spurt from Oregon State gave them the lead and the Beavers went on to take the second set, 25-18.
A kill from Elizabeth Walsh and a block from Walsh and Rooney kept the Leopards on pace with Oregon State earlier in the third frame. The Beavers used an 8-0 run to open up a 12-4 lead. Oregon State would go on to win the third set 25-10 and the match, 3-0.
The Leopards will square off against Pacific tonight at 6 p.m.
