HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Lafayette women's soccer team finished its 2015 season in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday night, falling by a 1-0 margin to Colgate.

The Leopards finish the year at 8-7-1 overall, their first winning season since 2011. Lafayette needed a win for a shot at a postseason berth, but came up short offensively and allowed a single goal to seal its fate.

Colgate's Jenna Raepple found space down the right side midway through the opening half and sent a shot on goal that Lafayette's Danielle Sedillo stopped with a diving effort to her right side. However, the deflection fell in an unlucky spot behind Sedillo and in the center of goal right at the feet of Catherine Williams, who finished in the open net for the score.

The pace of play was even throughout the rest of the stanza and the game moved into the second 45 minutes with the Raiders in front, 1-0. With 33 minutes to play, Lafayette's best chance came off the feet of Joanna Scotti, but started with an effort play from Katie Brannigan.

Breaking down a Colgate player in the middle of the field, Brannigan won a 50-50 ball and sent it out wide to Anna Wissler, who started a break down the right side of the field. Wissler sent a ball up to the box that was flicked on by Kaelin King to an open Scotti streaking through the middle of the box. Scotti cut back on a defender to create space and sent a low skidder that was stopped by a dive to her right from Colgate keeper Erin Cummings.

Each side worked their chances down the stretch, but the buzzer ultimately sounded on the Leopards' season with the home side's 1-0 victory. The Raiders led in shots, 13-9, and Lafayette held the advantage in corners, 4-2.

Seniors Shannon Hartzell, Kelly Chickering, Madison Murray, Samantha Potoczak and Wissler played their final games in the Maroon and White and will graduate in May as members of the Lafayette Class of 2016.
