EASTON, Pa. - Kevin Lewis and Morgan Westby each tallied hat trick for the Leopards, but the team fell to No. 14 Loyola on Saturday in Fisher Stadium. Matt Cortese made 14 saves for Lafayette in the loss.

Eric Joseph had a pair of goals, while Jason Sands chipped in a tally and two assists for the Leopards (1-7, 0-5). Erik Cannon led the Lafayette defense with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Loyola (5-4, 3-1) was powered by Nikko Pontrello with five goals and four assists. Grant Limone picked up the win for the Greyhounds making 10 saves in the game. Loyola used an 8-3 second quarter to take a 9-6 lead into the half.

The Leopards controlled the opening quarter, scoring the first goal of the game at the 13:47 mark. Robert Orazietti tallied his eighth goal of the season to open the scoring. After 10 minutes of scoreless action, Lafayette found the back of the net again. This time Kevin Lewis fired a shot past the Loyola goalie.

After the Greyhounds scored their first goal of the game, Joseph took a feed from Lewis in the closing seconds of the first quarter and buried his shot to give the Leopards a 3-1 lead at the end of one period. Westby tallied his first goal of the contest two minutes into the second quarter to push the Lafayette lead to 4-1. Westby netted his second goal of the game on a pass from Sands after a Greyhound goal to make it 5-2 with nine minutes to play in the half.

Loyola rallied midway through the second quarter. The Greyhounds scored four goals in three minutes to take their first lead of the contest, 6-5, with 5:39 to play in the second period. The run continued as Loyola pushed the deficit to 9-5 late in the half. Lewis stopped the spurt with a marker at the 15 second mark of the second quarter, and the Leopards went into the half trailing, 9-6.

The Greyhounds tallied the first three goals of the third quarter to increase their advantage to 12-6. Lewis completed his hat trick midway through the frame on a pass from Orazietti to trim the lead to five. Loyola tallied to close the third quarter and then took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the fourth period to take a 14-7 lead.

With a man-up opportunity, Sands found Westby, as the junior completed his hat trick early in the fourth. The Leopards followed that with another goal 50 seconds later. Joseph tallied his team-leading 13 goal of the season on a pass from Cory Scheuerle. At the 11:09 mark, a solo effort from Sands cut the deficit to 14-10. Loyola closed the game on a five-goal streak and went on to take down the Leopards, 19-10.

Both teams were solid in extra-man situations, with the Greyhounds going 3-for-5 and the Leopards taking advantage of two of their three chances. Loyola held the advantage at the faceoff x winning 23 of the 32 draws.

The Leopards are back in action on Friday night at UMBC. Opening faceoff from Maryland is set for 7:30 p.m.
