Lafayette senior Mike Zausmer and sophomore Jared Mactas led the Leopards golf team to a fifth-place finish at the 2015 Coca-Cola Bottling Company of the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational hosting by Lafayette at 6,518-yard, par-71 Silver Creek Country Club's championship course. Mactas shot a two-over 73 for the second straight round to finish tied for fifth at 146 while Zausmer shot a one-over 72 to finish tie for 12th at 148.
St. Peter's won the team title atop a jam-packed leaderboard with a two-day total of 591, edging Lehigh by one stroke, Central Connecticut State by three strokes, Monmouth by five strokes and Lafayette by seven strokes. Matt Hills of Central Connecticut State earned medalist honors, finishing 71-72--143.
Rounding out Lafayette's scores were freshman Art Griffin (T25th; 76-75--151), sophomore Robert Dyer (T42nd; 78-77--155) and Patrick Luther (T49th; 76-80--156).
Lafayette also entered a second squad and one individual in the tournament. The second squad finished in a four-way tie for 10th at 617, featuring freshman Sam Aronoff (T10th; 72-75--147), freshman James Frahm (T33rd; 78-75--153), senior Kirk Massie (T42nd; 73-82--155), senior Phil Rosengarden (T74th; 84-82--166) and junior Travis Ricca (T74th; 80-86--166). Competing as an individual was senior Doug Fernandez (73rd; 84-81--165).
Lafayette's next competition is the Navy Spring Invitational at the Naval Academy Golf Club this coming weekend, April 11-12.
