WORCESTER, Mass. -- Lafayette finished off the 2015 season with a 4-1 loss to Holy Cross on Sunday at Freshman Field.
The Leopards end the season at 4-37 overall and 1-17 in Patriot League play.
Holy Cross scored a run in the home half of the first and added three more scores in the third inning for a 4-0 lead. Taylor Moss connected for a three-run home in that decisive third-inning rally that chased Lafayette starter Stephanie Thomas from the circle.
Lafayette got one run back in the top of the fourth as Jenna Didio and Kelly Lallis led off the inning with singles and Rebecca Dvorak followed with an RBI-double with no outs in the inning. The Leopards looked for more in the inning. Samantha Sweigart hit a ground ball to second and Lallis was retired trying to score. Allison Brown flew out and Miranda Skurla lined out to end the rally with a pair of runners aboard.
Leading 4-1, Holy Cross (11-17, 9-9) pitcher Gennifer Durham retired the Leopards in order in the fifth and sixth, but allowed two base runners in the seventh before enticing Jenna Orlando into a pop up to end the game.
Durham (8-9) allowed one run on six hits in the circle win while Stephanie Thomas (2-14) gave up four runs on five hits in the loss. Thomas struck out four and walked one. Lindsey Cherry was solid in relief, scattering four hits over 3.2 innings while walking five and striking out five.
