POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist pitching staff held the Lafayette offense in check in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, as the Red Foxes topped the Leopards 2-0.
Megan Beiermeister, Jessica Van Alphen and Jayne Oberdorf limited the Maroon and White to three hits over seven innings.
Brooke Wensel, who had two of the team's hits, managed a two-out infield single in the first inning, but a ground out ended the frame.
Marist (32-19) used a first-inning long ball to take the lead. Madison Lee lifted Lindsey Cherry's 2-0 offering over the wall in left field.
The Leopards escaped the fourth inning with the one-run deficit intact. Alexis took over for Cherry in the circle. Her three walks eventually loaded the bases, but Randall stranded all three runners with a ground ball out to end the inning.
The hosts added another run in the sixth when Lee hit her second solo home run of the game after a seven-pitch at-bat against Randall.
In the visitor seventh, Brooke Wensel's one-out double brought the tying run to the plate. Oberdorf retired Kristyn Marinelli (groundout) and Jenna Orlando (strikeout).
The Leopards (11-27) close out the 2017 season this weekend with a three-game series at Holy Cross.
