Volleyball Battles Army to Four Set Defeat

Two Leopards with double-digit kill on the night

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team came out of the gates strong on Friday night, but fizzled out and fell to Army by a 3-1 final at Kirby Sports Center.

The Leopards (5-18, 0-11 PL) came out firing as freshman Leanna Deegan notched four kills in the opening frame and junior Julia Howard tallied 11 assists to jump out to an early lead, 25-21, powered by a 5-0 run in the early going with Howard at the service line.

Ultimately, Army (10-14, 5-6 PL) had a standout performance from Easton-native Courtney Horace, who went 18-2-31 on the night, hitting .516 to power the Black Knights to the finish line.

Freshman Grace Tulevech paced Lafayette with 12 kills, while Deegan finished with 10 on the night. Howard had 39 assists in the match and sophomore Audrey Mangum had a match-high 17 digs.

The Maroon and White will be back in action Saturday, hosting Colgate in Patriot League action at Kirby Sports Center with first serve set for 3 p.m.
