Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker at Army

Hazel's last -second strike was just too strong in a 1-0 decsion

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday night in Patriot League action, falling to Army by a 1-0 final.

The Leopards had an opportunity in the final minute, when freshman goalkeeper Alex Sutton's clear was won by classmate Nick Hazel whose strike from 30 yards out was just high as time expired.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Army (4-5-1, 1-2 PL) netted the game's only goal in the 50th minute when the Black Knights earned their first corner of the night and made the most of it.

Lafayette (4-4-2, 0-2-1 PL) had a great opportunity in the 69th minute when sophomore Andrew Venezia found freshman Conor O'Donnell streaking down the middle, but his shot attempt was denied by the Army netminder who fully extended to deny the equalizer.

The Maroon and White won the shots on goal battle, leading the Black Knights 5-3 in the category.

Lafayette returns to action on Saturday, playing its third road game in four contests when it travels to Boston University for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
