Box Score EASTON, Pa. -- The Lafayette College men's soccer team fell in the season opener on Friday night by a 1-0 final as Saint Francis Brooklyn was able to hold off the Leopards final surge at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
After controlling possession for the opening fifteen minutes of the contest, the Terriers were able to find the back of the net when a free ball in the box was tipped in by Amir Islami which would result in the game's lone score.
With 19 minutes remaining in the game, sophomore
Alistair Person was unable to find the net when junior
Diego Gomera-Tavarezfound him streaking towards the goal.
In the game's final 10 minutes, freshman
Will Echeverria was inserted into the Leopards' lineup and provided an immediate spark. His sideline throw-ins gave Lafayette multiple scoring opportunities inside the box, including a header by junior
Dylan Royalty that went just wide of the pipe.
Freshman
Alex Sutton was a strong net minder for the Leopards as he turned away three Terrier opportunities, while Saint Francis' Nico Cassado matched his strong performance with a duo of saves.
The Leopards will hit the road for a trio of games, starting with a trip to Monmouth on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. before returning to College Hill on Sept. 7 for a matchup with Cornell.
