Box Score EASTON, Pa. -- The Lafayette College volleyball team dropped the season opener in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center to Duquesne.
Freshman Grace Tulevech went 14-2-24, hitting at a .500 clip in her debut with the Leopards. She added eight digs and three blocks in the loss.
Tulevech got off to a fast start, recording five kills in the back-and-forth opening set. The scoring margin was no larger than two before an 8-3 scoring run by Duquesne ended the set by the score of 25-19.
The Dukes' Kori Johnson and Maria Wosbacher both recorded five kills in the second set, where Duquesne outscored the Leopards 25-14.
In the final set, Lafayette managed to make 7-2 scoring run to take the lead, 23-22. In the set, Tulevech recorded six kills, while Ruggiero made four to spark the run. However, Duquesne managed to take the set, 26-24 to claim the match.
Junior Katrina Ruggiero added seven kills to go along with 10 digs and a service ace, while freshman Kelly Austin matched her with seven kills.
The Leopards are back in action Monday when they host Saint Peter's at 7 p.m. at Kirby Sports Center.
