Men's Soccer Denied Patriot League Opener

Leopards hold Bison to just one shot on goal in the loss

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on Saturday to Bucknell in its first Patriot League contest of the season at Holmes Stadium.

The game's only goal came in the early going as Bucknell's (3-3-2, 1-0 PL) Michael Pavick found the back of the net in the ninth minute.

It was the only shot on goal for the Bison as the Leopard defense of senior Joe DeStefano, juniors Christian Williams and Diego Gomera-Tavarez, and sophomore Andrew Venezia were strong the rest of the afternoon, each playing all 90 minutes.

In the 89th minute, Lafayette earned a corner kick as junior Ryan Goncalves found freshman Sebastian Varela who was denied the scoring opportunity on a diving save by the Bison goalkeeper to seal the 1-0 defeat.

The Maroon and White will return home for more Patriot League action on Sept. 29 when the Leopards host Holy Cross at 1 p.m. at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
