Field Hockey Runs Out of Time to #24 BU

Turnbull tallies a pair of goals in the loss

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette field hockey team made a comeback charge against No. 24 Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field, but ultimately ran out of time in a 7-4 outcome.

The Leopards opened the scoring early when junior Caroline Turnbull found the back of the net on a rebound after a corner try in the 11th minute to give Lafayette an early advantage.

The Terriers answered back with six unanswered goals, as they took a 4-1 lead into the break and lead 6-1 with 20 minutes to play in the game.

Just before the half, Boston U. had two corner attempts that were both denied by junior Sarah Park with zeroes on the clock. However, a foul on the second attempt gave the Terriers a penalty shot that was converted.

The Maroon and White woke up in the second half when sophomore Sam Di Maio made a move in front and converted to cut into the Boston U. lead.

It sparked a 3-0 Leopard run over the next 13 minutes that included Turnbull's second of the afternoon and a beautiful give-and-go off a corner from reigning Patriot League Defender of the Week junior Lisa van der Geest to senior Theresa Delahanty.

The Terriers would stop the momentum as they added an insurance goal with four minutes to play and seal the game.

The Leopards will now step out of conference for a matchup at Villanova on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. before heading to Colgate on Oct. 6 for more Patriot League action. Lafayette will return home on Oct. 8 when they host in-state foe Penn at 4 p.m. at Rappolt Field.
