Men's Soccer Drops First Home Match of the Season

The Leopards held the 17-3 shooting advantage but fall to American 2-1

EASTON, Pa. – Despite holding the 17-3 shooting advavntage over American, the Lafayette men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at Oaks on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to American.

The loss brings the teams overall record to 8-3-2 and 4-2 in Patriot League action.

"The first 15 minutes we were poor defensively," head coach Dennis Bohn said, "The last 75 minutes we showed some character and got a goal back, but unfortunately we couldn't find the tying goal."

American (2-9-2, (2-3-1)) wasted no time at the start of the match finding the back of the net, scoring at the six minute mark before turning right around and scoring two minutes later. The Eagles would fire one more at the Leopards (8-3-2 (4-2)) net but it would result in a save by sophomore Alex Sutton and the Eagles went into the locker room at the half with a two goal advantage.

Senior Christian Williams started the second half off strong for the Leopards, scoring nine minutes into the half, off an assist from senior Ryan Goncalves to put the Leopards on the board. The goal was the defender's second of the season.

Despite the Maroon and White firing off 10 shots and American taking none on goal in the second half, Lafayette couldn't connect for the equalizer, taking their second conference loss and first of the season at Oaks.

Williams led the way for the Leopards with three shots (two on goal) and the lone goal. Sophomore Marcos Kitromilides recorded a season-high five shots and a season-high three shots on goal and sophomore Andrew Venezia totaled three shots.

Lafayette has a week off before they are back in action. Next Saturday they travel to Bethlehem to take on local rival Lehigh.
