ELON, N.C. – Freshman
Justin Johnson collected the first hit of his collegiate career on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately Elon would pull away at Latham Park, 8-0.
Â
Junior
Mark Anderson made the start on the bump for the Leopards (0-2) and struck out four in four innings, while scattering three hits. He worked out of a serious jam in the fourth, facing first and third with one out and forced Elon (2-0) to hit into a double play to keep it a one-run game at the time.
Â
The Leopards had their best chance of the afternoon in the sixth when Johnson singled to center field with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch. However, Lafayette was unable to bring him home.
Â
The Phoenix racked up 11 hits and were helped out by five Lafayette errors in the ball game and Elon pitchers combined to strikeout 14 on the day.
Â
The series finale is set for Sunday with junior
Brett Kreyer expected to face Mason Daniels and first pitch has been moved up to noon in an attempt to beat some expected weather.
