SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lafayette baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to South Carolina Upstate on Tuesday at Harley Park to close its spring break trip in a final tune up for Patriot League play.
The Spartans (10-11) pushed across a run in each of the first four innings to jump out to an early lead.
Lafayette (3-14) threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but left the runners stranded to close the inning.
Freshman
Frank Craska came in out of the bullpen to toss 2.1 scoreless innings. Sophomore
Bill Russo had a pinch hit single late in the game and senior
Spencer Rouse reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with a walk.
A pair of double headers is on tap for the weekend as the Leopards travel to rival Lehigh to open Patriot League play on Saturday and Sunday with each day's twin bill beginning at noon.
