DURHAM, N.C. –  The Lafayette baseball team came back to win game two of a pair of Saturday contests against North Carolina Central at Durham Athletic Park, dropping game one, 9-1, and claiming the night cap, 16-10.
Â
The Leopards (2-6) took an early lead in the second game and never looked back as junior
Trey Durrah drove home sophomore
Ethan Stern, who doubled to open the game, on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Durrah had three RBIs in the contest while Stern was 4-for-6 with a double, home run and stolen base.
Â
Lafayette went up 6-0 after six and a half innings before the Eagles (5-5) put together a four-run bottom of the seventh after starting pitcher
Mark Anderson's day was done.
Â
The junior threw six strong innings, allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out four. Anderson worked out of two bases loaded jams to keep his line clean and earn the victory.
Â
In the top of the ninth, Stern tacked on some insurance with a three-run home run to make it 16-8 before senior
Andrew Marra came in to shut the door in the ninth.
Â
Freshman
Justin Johnson was 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs and two RBIs while junior
Jake Sniegocki was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs.
Â
Lafayette also struck first in game one when junior
Jake Sniegocki drove home senior
Richard Villa in the second to take a 1-0 lead. The would be the lone Lafayette run as NCCU answered with two in the bottom of the second and shut the Leopards out the rest of the way.
Â
The Maroon and White played clean baseball throughout the day, with just one error in game one and no blemishes in game two.
Â
Game three of the series is scheduled for Sunday with first pitch at noon at Durham Athletic Park.
