WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lafayette men's lacrosse team outscored No. 15/17 Army, 3-2, in the second quarter, but a second-half surge by the Black Knights bested the Leopards, 12-5, Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.
In a defensive first half, freshman
George Enman tied the game at one at the 3:47 mark for his first of the day. The Black Knights would answer with a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter to take a 3-1 edge into the second.
The Leopards would answer with two of their own to tie the game again at three as Enman scored his second and sophomore
Andrew Robbins had the equalizer at 8:18. Enman scored a pair of goals on the day with an assist and a groundball, while Robbins would also score a pair with two groundballs.
Army would tack on two more, but Lafayette would have the final say of the half as freshman
Cole Dutton scored the last goal of the frame off an assist from senior
Connar Dehnert to head into the break down, 5-4.
In the second half, Army would prove why it is one of the nation's top teams as the Black Knights scored seven unanswered goals with Robbins ending the Lafayette drought in the final seconds of the game.
Freshman
Ryan Ness went the distance in net for Lafayette, making 13 saves on the afternoon. Each side was 18-of-22 on clears and the Leopards forced Army into 21 turnovers and six penalties in the game, scoring once on the man advantage.
Patriot League play continues on March 9 when the Maroon and White host Navy at Fisher Stadium for the league home opener at 12 p.m.
