BOSTON – The Lafayette women's lacrosse team never quit on Saturday afternoon in Boston, but the Leopards could not get closer than a three-goal deficit in the second half as Boston U. sent the Maroon and White to an 18-8 defeat.
The game started evenly from both sides as senior
Jane Kirby's 28
th of the season made it a one-goal contest with 8:07 to play in the opening half at 5-4. However, Boston U. dominated the end of the first frame with four straight tallies to take a 9-4 advantage into the halftime break.
The Terriers kept the momentum going into the second, scoring the first of the half, but the Leopards made their run in response. Three straight from the Maroon and White got them back in the game at 10-7 with 19:47 to play, but that was where the offense stopped as Boston U. extended its lead back out and closed out an 18-8 final.
Senior co-captain
Emma Novick led the Leopards offensively with two goals and an assist, while classmate
Hannah Davey added a pair of scores. Additionally, freshmen
Olivia Cunningham and
Caroline Curnal, Kirby and junior
Ashley Ender all scored individual tallies.
Sophomore
Quinn Lacy made 12 saves between the pipes, but dropped her fifth contest of the year. On the other side, Kennady Smith picked up the win with 10 saves and just eight goals allowed.
BU led the way in shots, 38-22, and groundballs, 20-11. The Terriers won 16-of-27 draw controls and caused 10 turnovers compared to just five for the Leopards.
Next up for the Maroon and White is a trip to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on Wednesday for a meeting with Bucknell at 7 p.m.
