Men’s Lacrosse Caps 2019 Season with Loss to No. 8 Loyola

Leopards hung tough defensively in 15-4 result

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men's lacrosse team did everything it could against a national power in No. 8 Loyola on Friday evening at Fisher Stadium, rounding out its 2019 campaign with a 15-4 loss.

The Leopard defense frustrated the Greyhounds for the majority of the opening half, allowing just two goals over the first frame and four in the second. Lafayette tallies from senior Connar Dehnert and junior Robbie Garavente took the game to the break at a manageable 6-2 deficit.

After trading goals to start the third quarter, the Loyola prowess took over, scoring four goals in the final six minutes of the third and three in the first seven minutes to start the fourth, opening up a 14-3 advantage. Dehnert's second of the night stopped the run, but the visitors added one final score at the 4:32 mark to close it out.

Dehnert and Garavente each scored two goals to provide the offense, while freshman Cole Dutton added a pair of assists. Junior Chris Adamo picked up a team-high four ground balls and caused a turnover on the defensive end.

Between the pipes, sophomore Jake Floyd-Jones earned his third decision of the year with 11 saves and 14 goals allowed in 54:24 of action. Senior Jonathan Anastos played out the final 5:36 of his collegiate career with one goal allowed and one save.

Shots finished at 53-27 in favor of the visitors and Lafayette came out on the short end of a 40-25 ground ball margin. Loyola took advantage of both of its extra-man chances and turned Lafayette over 17 times compared to 14 of its own.

Friday's contest marked the finale in the collegiate careers of the Leopards' 10-man senior class. The Maroon and White finish 2019 with an overall record of 4-11 and 0-8 in conference play.
