EASTON, Pa.  – Junior lefty-hander
Brett Kreyer went the distance on Sunday afternoon at Kamine Stadium to help the Lafayette baseball team sweep Bucknell by a 10-5 final in the series finale.
Â
The Leopards (11-18, 6-4 PL) got off to a fast start, plating six runs in the first inning with the help of four Bucknell (9-24, 3-11 PL) errors. The big hit in the inning was sophomore
Hunter Silvernail's first of the season, a two-out RBI double down the right field line to score senior
Spencer Rouse.
Â
The Bison settled in though and starting pitcher Jeff Gottesman settled in to keep Lafayette scoreless over the next five innings while Bucknell scored five unanswered runs to make it a 6-5 game in the fifth.
Â
Kreyer was not rattled with only one of his five runs being earned over his nine innings of work, striking out three, walking two and scattering six hits to move to 2-3 on the season. It was the Ashburn, Virginia native's third career complete game and second of 2019.
Â
Up only one, the Leopards tacked on some insurance in the seventh, pushing across four runs when Rouse opened the inning getting hit by a pitch and Silvernail singled to center. Freshman
Zach Savage drove a single down the left field line to score Silvernail and freshman
Justin Johnson followed with a base knock.
Â
Junior
Trey Durrah delivered the big hit, doubling down the left field line to score Savage and Johnson to put Lafayette in front, 9-5, through seven.
Â
Durrah was 2-for-3 on the afternoon with two RBIs and a run while Silvernail posted a 3-for-4 day with two runs and an RBI. Savage rounded out the order with a 2-for-2 performance with a pair of RBIs and a run.
Â
Kreyer allowed a leadoff base runner in the eighth, but that was quickly erased when his defense turned a slick 6-4-3 double play and a pitch later, Kreyer induced a fly out to make quick work of the Bison in the eighth before retiring them in order in the ninth for the complete game.
Â
The Leopards return to action on Wednesday when Big Ten foe Rutgers makes the trip to College Hill for a midweek matchup, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Kamine Stadium.
