Volleyball Beats St. Peter's to Win 10th-Straight

The Leopards defeated the Peacocks in five sets

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College volleyball team defeated St. Peter's on Tuesday night in five sets to close out nonconference play and extend its win streak to 10 straight matches.

The first set saw Saint Peter's (3-10) coming out to a strong start and winning by a close 25-21. The second set saw the reverse, with the Leopards winning 25-21. Lafayette (11-5) won the third set, 25-17, but was not able to complete the four set win, dropping the fourth set by another close 25-23, forcing a 15 point fifth set.

The Maroon and White came out strong in the fifth set, winning the first three points to open the set. But the Peacocks stormed back to tie things up and then from there, the set continued in a back and forth fashion until the Leopards pulled away with back-to-back kills, to beat the Peacocks to 15 and claim the set and match victory.

"We battled and we scored points when we needed too," head coach Ryan Adams said, "We extended rallies and took big swings. It was a good team we battled tonight."

The Leopards were led on the night by freshman Ellie Carrera-Justiz and sophomore Grace Tulevech, who each had 16 kills on the night. Carrera-Justiz also totaled 42 total attacks with a .190 hitting percentage and Tulevech recorded 51 total attacks and a .216 hitting percentage.

Senior Katrina Ruggiero and sophomore Leanna Deegan also recorded double-digit kills with 13 and 14, respectively.

The Leopards open up conference play on Friday as they welcome local rival Lehigh to Kirby. The match will be streamed on the Patriot League network and is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
