Volleyball Splits Games on First Day of Crossover Invitational

The Leopards won their first match against Delaware before falling to Manhattan

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette volleyball team split their games on Friday, in the first day of the Crosstown Invitational, beating Delaware State in five sets and falling to Manhattan in three.

The win against Delaware State (1-5) was the first of the season for the Leopards and head coach Ryan Adams' first collegiate career win as a head coach.

"Felt great to get one in the books," head coach Ryan Adams said.

In the first match of the day, Lafayette (1-4) took the first set 25-15 before dropping the second 19-25 to the Hornets.  They would then come back and take the third and fourth both by a score of 27-25, to earn their first win of the season after battling the Hornets in a tight back and forth battle throughout most of the set.

Sophomore Leanna Deegan led the way with 12 kills. Sophomore Grace Tulevech and senior Katrina Ruggiero finished with 11 kills apiece.

The second match of the day proved to be tougher for the Leopards as they dropped a 3-1 decision to Manhattan (1-3).

"We just need to stay focused on the little things," Adams said, "We fell short today in our second match but the effort is there.

Sophomore Grace Tulevech led the way with 24 kills. Sophomore Leanna Deegan finished the day with 21 kills, freshman Ellie Carrera-Justiz finished with 19 and senior Katrina Ruggiero finished with 16.
