Men's Soccer Battles to 0-0 Tie at St. Francis Brooklyn

The Leopards improve to 2-0-1 on the season

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Lafayette men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroon and White came out strong in the first half, giving the Terriers (2-0-1) goalkeeper plenty to do, firing nine shots and one on goal. After a back and forth battle, the Leopards (2-0-1) were handed a red card 35 minutes into the first half to put them down a man for the rest of the game, but they were still able to hold the Terriers scoreless through the second half and both overtimes.

Lafayette outshot the Terriers 15-13, firing six at the net to the Terriers five. All five of the Terriers shots on goal were saved by sophomore Alex Sutton who, with the 0-0 tie, recorded his third straight shutout this season.

Sophomore Martin Ssessanga led the way for the Leopards with four shots and one on goal. Freshman Yiannis Panayides followed closely behind him recording three shots and one on goal.

The Leopards return home on Tuesday as they welcome Monmouth University to Oaks Stadium for a 7 p.m. game.  In honor of September being cancer awareness month, the Leopards will be participating in Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer ® throughout the coming week to raise money and awareness for Pediatric Cancer and at the game on Tuesday, will be wearing yellow wristbands to show their support.
