EASTON, Pa – Lafayette used a 13-point run in the second quarter to secure the win over Colgate Wednesday night in
Kirby Sports Center.
The Leopards improve to 6-3 in league play and currently sit in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings with Colgate and Holy Cross. They have now won four-straight Patriot League contests and five straight at home.
Sophomore
Nicole Johnson led the way for Lafayette with a career-high 13 points and senior
Sarah Agnello also found herself in double digits with 12. Junior
Natalie Kucowski led the way for the Leopards in rebounds with 19.
Lafayette (10-9, 6-3 PL) came out strong in the first quarter, staying tied with Colgate (14-6, 6-3 PL) until the two minute mark when senior
Tasha Vipond went 2-2 from the charity stripe to put the Leopards up by one.
Sophomore
Jiselle Havas and junior
Sydney Sabino each added one from beyond the arc to finish out the first quarter and put the Leopards up by six.
The Leopards opened up the second quarter just as strong as they finished out the first. Senior
Alexis Santarelli put one in from just outside the paint to get things started for Lafayette and from there, the Leopards would push their lead out to as far as 19 before the Raiders would even start to chip away at their lead.
Lafayette headed into the locker room up 30-13 with Colgate only able to cut the deficit to 17.
The second half saw Lafayette continuing to dominate in the third quarter, outscoring Colgate 14-12.
The Raiders got on the board first in the final frame but was only able to cut the Leopards lead down to 12 with a little over four minutes left to play. With less than four minutes to go in the game, Kucowski made two layups and Johnson made one of her own to finish off the Raiders and secure the win.
This is the first time since the 2013-14 season that Lafayette has won four-straight Patriot League games.
Next up for the Leopards is a trip to Washington D.C. on Saturday to face American for the first time this season. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
