Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Freeland, Vipond Record Season-Highs in Loss to Bucknell

Leopards drop to 1-1 in Patriot League action

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette women's basketballs offense just couldn't seem to break through Bucknell's defense Sunday afternoon as they fell, 50-36, to drop to 1-1 in Patriot League action.

Senior Tasha Vipond led the way for the Leopards, putting up a season-high nine points. She also recorded season-high assists (2), blocks (2) and played a season-high 23 minutes.

Junior Drew Freeland also had a season-high game by pulling down six rebounds and sophomore Nicole Johnson had a season-high two steals.

Junior Natalie Kucowski pulled down 13 rebounds, bringing her career rebounding total to 814 and moving her into third all-time in the Lafayette record books, passing Alicia Yapsuga.

Despite a defensive game on both sides of the court in the first half, Lafayette (5-7, 1-1 PL) struggled to get passed the Bison's defense, being held to 24.2 percent shooting and heading into the locker room down 11 at the half.

Sparked by Vipond, the offensive picked up in the third quarter, outscoring the Bison 11-9 to bring the Leopards back within 11, heading into the fourth.

Senior Alexis Santarelli would put in a layup at the start of the fourth quarter to try to spark the Maroon and White's offense again but the Bison responded with a four-point scoring run to extend their lead.

The Bison capped off the quarter with another scoring run to add to their lead with the Leopards only able to find the basket for four more points to finish out the game.

Lafayette will be back on the road on Wednesday as they are set for an 11 a.m. tip-off against Holy Cross.
