LEXINGTON, Va. – Lafayette baseball dropped its second game of the series to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets Saturday afternoon 9-1.
The Leopards were led by senior
Mark Glover who drove in the team's lone run on the afternoon, going 1-for-4 from the plate.
Lafayette (1-4) got on the board first in the fourth inning after junior
Ethan Stern drew a walk to get on base. Stern advanced to second on a wild pitch and then Glover doubled to center to bring Stern home and put the Leopards up 1-0.
VMI (2-4) responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead and then added one more run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-1 heading into the sixth inning.
The Leopards threated in the seventh inning after senior
Trey Durrah started off the inning with a walk. Durrah than advanced to second on a wild pitch to open up first for sophomore
Dylan Minghini. Durrah tried to go home and was thrown out at the plate to leave Minghini the lone Leopard on base.
Senior
Colin Hartey then reached base on a fielding error by the Keydets first baseman, sending Minghini to second and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Senior
Jake Sniegocki then walked to load the bases for the Leopards but freshman
Patrick Vandenbergh couldn't connect and struck out swinging to end the inning.
The Keydets added five more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the second game of the series 9-1.
Lafayette and VMI are set to play the final game of the series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
