Baseball Falls to Rider in Home Opener

Durrah's solo home run was the lone run for the Leopards

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette College baseball team dropped its 2020 season home opener on Wednesday afternoon in eight innings, 10-1, to Rider University.

The Leopards were led by senior Trey Durrah who went 1-for-4 from the plate with a solo home run.

Rider (5-2) jumped on the board with a run in the third, adding another in the top of the fourth to make it 2-0.

Lafayette (2-5) then cut Rider's lead in half with Durrah's home run in the bottom of the fourth to make it a one run game.

The Leopards best chance to even up the score came in the top of the sixth. Senior Mark Glover started off the inning with a single and then a few batters later, junior Colin Hartey doubled to put runners in scoring position on second and third.

n to pinch hit, freshman Jack Amendola drew a walk to load the bases for freshman Seif Ingram but Ingram was unable to bring the runners on base home, striking out to end the inning.
Rider would go on to score six in the top of the seventh to stretch its lead out to nine.

The Maroon and White hit the road again this weekend for a three-game series against Davidson in North Carolina. The first game of the series is set for Friday with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m.
