PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior
Anna Stein of the Lafayette women's lacrosse team registered five points on four goals and an assist, but the Leopards couldn't stop Rutgers on Tuesday evening in Piscataway, New Jersey, closing the non-conference season with a 19-10 defeat.
The two sides played evenly over the first half of the opening frame before a five-goal Rutgers run from the 15:18 to the 8:12 mark opened it up at a 9-3 home lead. The Leopards took it to the break at an 11-5 deficit and cut that to 11-6 early in the second stanza and 13-8 with 17:18 to play. Unfortunately, it was all Scarlet Knights through the final stretch, though, extending it out to a 19-10 final.
Stein led five multi-point efforts from the Maroon and White with two goals apiece from
Ally Hickey and
Lizzie O'Brien.
Olivia Cunningham and
Meghan McLachlan each tallied a goal and an assist, respectively, to round out the attack.
The loss drops Lafayette to 4-3 on the season overall headed into Patriot League action. Rutgers improves to 5-4 this season, opening Big Ten play in its next tilt as well.
