Jaworski Honored as PL Men’s Hoops Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Junior guard is fifth in the league in scoring, carries a 3.75 grade-point average

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior co-captain Justin Jaworski of the Lafayette men's basketball team was named as part of the Academic All-Patriot League Team and selected as the Patriot League Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.

Jaworski is the fourth Leopard in program history to be named the sport's scholar-athlete, joining Ryan Willen in 2011-12, Matt Betley in 2007-08 and Mike Farrell in 2003-04. The nod on the academic all-league team is the second straight for the Schwenksville, Pa. native.

"Justin works as hard as anyone to be successful on and off the court," head coach Fran O'Hanlon said. "He's a great representation of what it means to be a true student-athlete at Lafayette."

An All-Patriot League Second-Team selection this season, Jaworski was outstanding for the Maroon and White before a knee injury on Feb. 12 at Army ended his campaign. He led the Leopards in scoring at 17.1 points per game and helped Lafayette to an 18-11 overall record, going 10-8 in league play, its first winning season in conference action since 2012-13.

Jaworski led the Patriot League in free-throw percentage, converting at an 86.7 percent clip, and sits second in threes per game at 2.6 per outing. The junior registered a pair of 30-point games this season, scoring 31 in a win over Atlantic-10 foe Saint Joseph's on Dec. 3 and dropping 32 in a win over American at Kirby Sports Center on Feb. 1.

Jaworski's Leopards open up Patriot League Tournament action on Thursday night, traveling to Army for a quarterfinal battle in West Point, N.Y. at 7 p.m.
