TOWSON, Md. – Lafayette baseball dropped a close game on Friday afternoon, falling to Towson University 6-5.
The Leopards were led by sophomore
Dylan Minghini who was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, going a career-high 4-for-5 from the plate.
Starting pitcher junior
JP Woodward went six innings, striking out six. Freshman
Jordan Yoder came in for 2.2 innings of relief, striking out a career-high six batters.
Lafayette (3-8) threatened early in the game with senior
Trey Durrah and sophomore
Dylan Minghini singling to put runners on first and second for the Leopards with no outs. Both runners than advanced on a passed ball putting themselves at second and third but neither came across the plate to keep the game scoreless through the third inning. Â
Minghini started off the top of the fourth inning for the Leopards with a double to left center and then advanced to third on a passed ball with no outs. Senior
Mark Glover  reached first on a fielding error by Towson (4-7), and then freshman
Seif Ingram hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Glover to second and send Minghini home to put the Leopards up 1-0.
Freshman
Jack Amendola joined Glover on the bases after being hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second for sophomore
Justin Johnson who reached first on another error by the Tigers, advancing to second as well on the error, sending Amendola to third and scoring Glover.
Lafayette would add one more run in the inning after senior
Colin Hartey drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Amendola.
Towson answered all three of the Leopards runs to put the score at 3-3 heading into the fifth inning. Â
The Maroon and White went on to take the lead in the top of the fifth off a solo home run by Minghini, marking his third of the season, but the Tiger's answered with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the fifth to put them up 5-3.
Lafayette went on to tie up the game in the top of the ninth with two outs after Glover doubled to left center to put the tying run on base. Freshman
Pete Ciuffreda, who came in to pinch hit for Ingram, singled to left field and Glover crossed home plate to put the score even at five. Â
Despite freshman
Jordan Yoder getting the first two Tigers out in the bottom of the ninth, Towson would put runners on first and second to set up a walk-off single to win the game 6-5.
Lafayette and Towson are set for a double header Saturday with game one slated for an 11 a.m. first pitch and game two to follow at 2 p.m. Â
