WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lafayette women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Monday, falling to the Holy Cross Crusaders, 52-33.
Lafayette entered this season's tournament seeded fifth, the program's highest seed since the 2013-14 season. They finished their 2019-20 campaign with an overall 15-14 record, going 11-7 in Patriot League play.
The Leopards were led by senior
Alexis Santarelli who totaled eight points and junior
Natalie Kucowski who pulled down 12 boards.
Lafayette (15-14, 11-7 PL) got in the first bucket of the game off a layup by junior
Drew Freeland but besides two made free throws by Santarelli, those would be the only four points the Leopards would score in the quarter.
The Leopards held Holy Cross (19-11, 11-7 PL) to just eight points and a 17.6 shooting percentage in the first quarter.
After starting the second quarter off trading baskets, the Crusaders broke away to give themselves a 10 point lead heading into halftime.
After being held to eight points in the third quarter, Lafayette tried to close the gap in the final frame, going on a seven-point scoring run to try to close the gap but it wasn't enough as the Leopards saw their 2019-20 season end at the hands of the Crusaders.
