Late Goal Lifts Leopards Over Army

Katie Butler Scores Her Second Goal of the Season

EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette women's soccer team was victorious against Army, defeating the Black Knights 1-0 on Wednesday at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.

In the first-half, neither team was able to take control offensively. The Leopards did not record a shot in the first-half, and while the Black Knights had five shots, none of those had to be handled by Lafayette sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar.

The match's only offensive fireworks occurred in the second-half. In the 80th minute, Lafayette senior Katie Butler received a pass from junior Sara Oswald on the near sideline. Butler put a few quick moves on her defender to get by her and then curled a low shot inside the far post, scoring her second goal of the year. Lafayette outshot Army in the second-half five to three.

The Leopards ended the evening with a total of five shots and Army had eight.  Lafayette and Army both recorded three shots on goal. Katie Butler and Sara Oswald led the Leopards' offense with two shots a piece, with Katie Butler's second shot resulting in the Lafayette goal. Melissa Lamanna recorded one shot.

Lafayette goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar was between the pipes for the first-half and faced five shots.  Natalie Neumann replaced Dewar in goal for the second-half, where she faced three shots and recorded three saves. Neumann was the goalkeeper of record and was credited with the win.

The Leopards will host Holy Cross in the second of a three-game home stand on Saturday, October 16th, at 2 p.m. at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
