PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Lafayette field hockey team traveled to Temple for a Sunday afternoon contest, defeating the Owls 1-0 in regulation. The Leopards are now 12-4 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play.
Lafayette mentioned that their two keys to this game were to bounce back from Friday night's overtime loss to Lehigh and to find fresh legs, as the Maroon and White are now one game-filled weekend away from the end of regular season.
The first quarter saw both teams battling in the midfield and during backfield transfers, with only three shots taking place for the Leopards and two for the Owls.
At 18:17 in the second quarter, freshman
Lineke Spaans had an opening for a clean shot towards goal, which was deflected into the net by senior captain
Molly McAndrew to put the Leopards in the lead.
In similar action to the first, neither team was able to convert during the third or fourth quarters. This left Lafayette ahead despite Temple getting in a few good shots, including a reverse hit that was sent just wide of the cage with about ten seconds left in the game.
The Leopards held the advantage in total shots (13-9), as well as penalty corners (6-3). Lafayette senior goalkeeper
Hailey Abbott made four saves in the victory, while her Temple counterpart, Megan Ragusa, made nine.
The Leopards invite their final Patriot League opponent, Bucknell, to Easton this Saturday for the Athlete Ally game.
