Early Goals Sink Leopards at Navy

Riley Dowd Scores Her Third Goal of the Season

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Lafayette women's soccer team concluded its regular-season schedule falling 3-1 to the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

The Midshipmen got on the board quickly in the 6th minute, when Alexa Riddle received a long pass from Jenna Daunt and was able to get behind the Lafayette defense for a break-away goal. Just a minute and forty-nine seconds later in the 7th minute, Riddle again found the back of the net on another break-away goal.  This time the pass was from Chloe Dawson.

In the 59th minute, Navy added to its lead. After a corner kick, the ball bounced between several players and came to rest in the middle of the penalty box where Katie Herrmann sent her shot past Lafayette goalkeeper Natalie Neumann.

In the 86th minute, a Navy yellow card in the penalty box led to a penalty kick for Lafayette. Riley Dowd took the penalty kick for the Leopards and sent her shot to the upper right corner of the goal, past Navy goalkeeper Megan Lamendola.

Lafayette ended the evening with seven shots and Navy had 19.  The Leopards were credited with four shots on goal and the Midshipmen recorded nine.  Lafayette was led in shots by Riley Dowd with two shots, both of them on goal, and Melissa Lamanna with two shots, one of them on goal. Katie Butler had one shot, which was on goal.  Gretchen Waechter and Rory Schauder also were credited with one shot each.

Goalkeeper Lindsay Dewar started the game for Lafayette and recorded four saves. Natalie Neumann entered the game for the second-half and is credited with one save.

The Leopards conclude their 2021 campaign with an overall record of 5-10, and 3-6 in the Patriot League.
